Best ManyChat alternatives in 2026: free, open source, cheaper, and agent-ready

Choose a ManyChat alternative by the job: chatbot flows, a shared inbox, or API access for your code and agents. These seven tools overlap, but their entry plans do not include the same features. Prices rechecked on September 16, 2026; annual billing and usage limits are identified below.

What you are actually replacing

Before you compare prices, name the job. ManyChat sits on three legs at once: a visual flow builder, an Instagram and Messenger DM engine with comment-to-DM triggers, and a contact database with broadcasts on supported channels. Its pricing page, checked September 16, 2026, lists broadcasts on WhatsApp, Telegram and Messenger from Pro; that is not a promise of unrestricted Instagram broadcasts. Almost nobody uses all three. Look at what you open every day and pick from that column.

I rechecked ManyChat's official prices on September 16, 2026. Free is $0 for 25 monthly Active Contacts. Essential is $17 a month for 250, or $14 a month equivalent with $168 billed yearly. Pro is $39 a month for 2,500, or $29 a month equivalent with $348 billed yearly. Paid plans charge for contacts above the allowance; inactive stored contacts do not count toward that month's Active Contacts.

Features matter too. Free allows up to 4 live automations; Essential allows unlimited custom automations. Both support up to 2 channels from Instagram, TikTok, Facebook Messenger and Telegram. Pro adds AI and API access, and allows up to 3 channels with WhatsApp, SMS and Email also eligible. A cheaper entry price only helps if the plan includes the channels and features you need.

Compare the billing unit as well as the price: subscribers, conversations, active contacts, seats or connected accounts. A popular post does not automatically create a charge. It matters whether it uses a billable feature or crosses an allowance. Per-account subscriptions can still have separate platform usage charges.

A low-cost ManyChat alternative

SendPulse Pro starts at $12 monthly for 500 subscribers, or $9.60 a month equivalent with $115.20 billed yearly. Free includes 3 chatbots, 500 subscribers and 10,000 messages a month across the bots. Check channel rules and separate WhatsApp template charges before comparing the total.

I would test the builder with one real comment-to-DM flow before committing. The useful comparison is the plan that completes your workflow, with its limits and billing period, rather than the lowest number on a pricing page.

Chatfuel Light offers free Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp automations and a visual flow builder. AI PRO adds paid AI features. Its pricing page switches between monthly and annual billing; confirm the selected cycle and usage limits before treating the displayed monthly equivalent as a month-to-month price.

The open source ManyChat alternative

Chatwoot. Self-host it under its open source licence or take the cloud: "Hacker" is $0 for up to 2 agents but live chat only, "Startups" is "$19 /agent/month billed annually", Business $39, Enterprise $99. Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, email and an API channel arrive from Startups up.

Chatwoot is my shortlist choice for a team sharing support conversations. Its free hosted Hacker plan covers website live chat, not Instagram. Startups adds the other channels; automation rules require Business or above. Self-hosting the open source edition is separate and still needs infrastructure and maintenance.

The cheaper alternative when you have many accounts

Once you manage more than a handful of accounts, per-contact pricing gets punishing and per-account pricing wins. Zernio charges nothing for the first 2 accounts, then "$6/mo each" for accounts 3 to 10, "$3/mo each" for 11 to 100 and "$1/mo each" beyond, graduated, so twenty accounts is $78 a month. Inbox is available on Instagram, Facebook, X, WhatsApp, Bluesky, Reddit, Telegram and Slack, with comments and reviews on nine platforms.

PlugKit is $49 a month for 5 connected accounts, cancel anytime. Pro costs $97 a month for 30 accounts. Additional Pro accounts cost $3 each for accounts 31 through 100, then $1.50 each from 101. Comment-to-DM automations, the unified inbox, analytics, webhooks and the MCP server are on both plans. The billing guide lists separate X charges: $0.005 per standard post read, $0.015 per ordinary publication and $0.200 per publication containing a URL. Check the operation before estimating usage.

Using those account tiers, 25 accounts cost $93 with Zernio versus $97 for PlugKit Pro; 30 cost $108 versus $97. This comparison excludes separate usage charges. The result changes with account count and features: see PlugKit vs Zernio.

The alternative for teams that answer humans

respond.io's annual equivalents are $79 a month for Starter, $159 for Growth and $279 for Advanced, billed as $948, $1,908 and $3,348 yearly. Workflows and Developer API require Growth; workflow HTTP requests and webhooks require Advanced. Growth starts with 10 users and 1,000 monthly active contacts, with usage and extra-user charges to check.

I would pay for those team workflows when routing and handover are daily work. For a solo creator, compare the simpler plans first. An annual team subscription and a monthly creator subscription are different commitments, even when a pricing page labels both prices per month.

Tidio is web-support oriented. Its annual display lists Starter at $24.17 a month equivalent for 100 billable conversations and Growth from $49.17 for 250. Higher quotas cost more. OpenAPI is listed on Plus and Premium; do not assume the Starter price includes it. AI conversations and flow usage have their own allowances.

The alternative if an AI agent will run this

This is the split that did not exist two years ago. ManyChat, Chatfuel and Tidio are built around a human using a flow builder. ManyChat also includes AI automation and API access on Pro, so code and AI are options there too. Zernio and PlugKit expose their whole surface as MCP tools, so Claude, Cursor or an always-on agent can create the automation, read the replies and answer them without a UI.

Then the agent has publish, inbox, comments, analytics and campaign tools on your connected accounts. Where these two lose to ManyChat: no visual flow builder. If your team designs branching conversation trees by dragging boxes, a switch will hurt.

The Meta rule that limits every tool on this list

No tool escapes the platform. Meta's private replies documentation, checked September 16, 2026, sets the rules that make comment-to-DM work at all:

• One initial private message per comment. Follow-ups require the person to respond and must stay within 24 hours of that response.
• The initial reply must be sent within seven days of the comment on a post, ad or reel.
• For Live comments, the reply must be sent during the broadcast, never after it ends.
• The message lands in the Inbox if the person follows you, in Requests if they do not.
• Permissions depend on the connection: Instagram Login uses an Instagram user token with instagram_business_basic and instagram_business_manage_comments; the Facebook Login route has its own Page-token permissions. Follow the setup for the route your tool uses.

Anyone promising unlimited follow-up DMs from a comment is describing a policy violation, not a feature. Judge a tool on how cleanly it handles that single message, not on how much it claims to send.
