ManyChat pricing in 2026: what you really pay per contact

By Antoine Blanco··10 min read

ManyChat's current plans start at $0 for 25 Active Contacts, then $17, $39, $99 and $199 a month. Annual billing lowers those paid rates to $14, $29, $69 and $139, charged upfront for the year. Paid plans add per-contact overages. I checked the official prices on September 16, 2026.

The five ManyChat plans, with the numbers that matter

Here is what the ManyChat pricing page and its plan guides published on September 16, 2026. These are web subscription rates under the model introduced on March 2, 2026. Older paid accounts are migrating by country; App Store subscriptions have different billing rules.

This table covers the English-language web offer. ManyChat's April 20, 2026 announcement excluded Brazil from the initial rollout, and its Portuguese pricing page displays a different model at this check. For a Brazilian account, confirm the offer in Settings > Billing > Subscription before using these quotas or upgrade thresholds. The April announcement alone does not establish today's availability for an individual account.

Plan Monthly billing Annual equivalent Charged yearly Active Contacts/month Extra contact: monthly / annual
Free $0 $0 n/a 25 n/a
Essential $17/mo $14/mo $168 250 $0.10 / $0.082
Pro $39/mo $29/mo $348 2,500 $0.05 / $0.038
Business $99/mo $69/mo $828 7,500 $0.025 / $0.018
Advanced $199/mo $139/mo $1,668 25,000 $0.004 / $0.0028

The annual equivalents are one twelfth of an upfront yearly charge. All figures are USD before tax, and your billing country determines the checkout price. Contact overages and any paid messaging or Inbox extras come on top.

One discrepancy matters for the arithmetic: the pricing page lists $0.082 per extra contact on Essential annual, while the Essential help article lists $0.08. I use the public pricing table's $0.082 below; check the rate shown in your account. The Advanced guide also says its overage rates can decrease at higher usage.

What an Active Contact is, and why your bill moves

According to the Active Contacts guide, repeat messages from the same contact count once during a billing month. Inactive stored contacts do not count. Across channels, the same person can count separately unless ManyChat can match their identities.

Three consequences worth internalizing before you pick a plan:

  1. Messages sent or received through automations, AI, broadcasts or the Inbox make a contact active. A comment-to-DM reply counts the same as a ten message conversation. Deleting contacts does not erase that month's usage.
  2. Paid web plans allow overages by default. In Settings > Billing > Subscription, you can set a contact limit. At that threshold, automations continue only for contacts already active that cycle. Free has a 25-contact allowance and no published overage rate. The Help Center also warns that automations may pause beyond a plan's maximum cap.
  3. Annual subscribers still have a monthly contact count and monthly overage charges. Annual billing lowers both the base price and the published overage rate; it does not turn the monthly allowance into a yearly pool.

That last point is the one that surprises people. A single reel that lands brings a month of contacts you did not budget for, and the bill follows the reel.

The three break-even points

The plan price is the small number. The overage is the one that decides your bill. This is my arithmetic on ManyChat's published rates: base + max(0, contacts - included) × overage rate. Annual comparisons use one twelfth of the yearly base and assume the same contact volume every month, excluding tax, extras and upgrade credits. Each next plan includes all contacts at the threshold shown.

Annual plan Example volume Base + overage Next plan Cheaper from, before rounding
Essential, $14 1,000 contacts $14 + 750 × $0.082 = $75.50 Pro, $29 433 contacts
Pro, $29 4,000 contacts $29 + 1,500 × $0.038 = $86 Business, $69 3,553 contacts
Business, $69 12,000 contacts $69 + 4,500 × $0.018 = $150 Advanced, $139 11,389 contacts

On monthly billing, the next plan becomes strictly cheaper at 471, 3,701 and 11,501 contacts respectively. The prices tie at 470, 3,700 and 11,500.

These are unrounded boundaries. At 11,389 contacts, Business annual works out to $139.002 for the month: if totals round to cents, that still ties Advanced's $139. At 11,390, the rounded amount is higher. If Essential's $0.08 help-page rate applies to your account, its annual threshold is 438 instead of 433.

Read it once and the shape is obvious: Essential is a trap beyond 432 recurring monthly Active Contacts on the annual rates above. For a spike, compare the remaining-year cost before upgrading. An upgrade starts a new billing period immediately, charges the new plan and credits the unused portion of the old one; annual downgrades wait until the term ends. The pricing FAQ says an upgrade within the same cycle waives overages incurred so far and carries the contacts into the new allowance.

Is ManyChat free?

There is a Free plan at $0 and it is usable for a test: 25 Active Contacts a month, up to 2 channels from Instagram, TikTok, Facebook Messenger and Telegram, up to 4 active automations, 1 user and 1 Inbox seat. It includes self-serve support and ManyChat branding on the first message to a contact. Twenty-five contacts is one good day of comment replies, so treat it as a demo rather than a plan.

The Free plan does not ask for a card; paid plans do. Essential and Pro offer a 14-day trial for eligible accounts, while Business and Advanced do not. Under the trial terms, a trial becomes a paid recurring subscription unless you cancel before it ends.

You can request a refund through support within 30 days of your first plan purchase. An upgrade does not restart that window, and the refund policy allows ManyChat to deny a request. Cancellation alone is not an automatic refund.

Account and country eligibility

Instagram automation requires a professional Business or Creator account, not just a public personal profile. Grant the requested permissions and enable Allow access to messages. ManyChat's connection routes differ: Via Instagram needs no Meta Business account; Via Meta requires a Business Portfolio; Via Meta Business Suite requires a linked Facebook Page with Full Control. Those requirements apply to Free too.

Check the country, account and channel before paying. The pricing rollout to older accounts is separate from service eligibility. A January 2025 staff clarification described exclusions tied to the account owner's affiliation with sanctioned countries; an administrator elsewhere was not enough to change that. That is dated guidance, not a current country list. The public terms checked on September 16, 2026 do not provide a complete current exclusion list. Confirm availability with ManyChat for the business that owns the account.

Channel restrictions are more specific. ManyChat's TikTok connection guide excludes EU and UK users; that is not an Instagram restriction. Its WhatsApp guide still describes a pause on marketing templates sent to US recipients, without a resumption date. That does not disable WhatsApp conversations or every template category.

ManyChat for Instagram: what you pay for at each tier

Most people arrive here for Instagram comment-to-DM, so the channel limits matter more than the contact limits. Free and Essential allow up to 2 from Instagram, Facebook Messenger, TikTok and Telegram. Pro allows up to 3 from those four plus WhatsApp, SMS and Email; Business and Advanced allow all seven. The pricing comparison lists email allowances of 10,000 on Pro, 30,000 on Business and 100,000 on Advanced.

Across Free, Essential, Pro, Business and Advanced, user limits are 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10. Included Inbox seats are a separate count: 1, 1, 2, 3 and 5 respectively. Additional paid Inbox seats become available from Pro. Each ManyChat account has its own subscription and contact allowance, so managing several accounts can mean several bills.

For an eligible account using Instagram DMs plus WhatsApp plus TikTok, Pro is the minimum plan, whatever the contact count. Pro includes AI and API access. ManyChat lists broadcasts on WhatsApp, Telegram and Messenger from Pro, not unrestricted Instagram outreach. Essential gets unlimited custom automations, lead capture, tags, Google Sheets sync and no ManyChat branding. WhatsApp template charges depend on the category and destination market.

One strength I do give ManyChat: it states that it is a TikTok partner and an Official Meta Business Partner. For comment-to-DM on Instagram at volume, that partner status is a real asset and I say so in the alternatives roundup.

That partnership is not immunity. ManyChat's own Meta approval guidance says users of approved tools can still receive flags or restrictions. High message volumes and repetitive public replies can trigger enforcement. A warning alone does not identify the cause, and ManyChat cannot override Meta's decision. The messaging windows and spam rules apply at every price tier.

Per contact or per account: two different meters

The reason ManyChat's bill is hard to predict is the meter itself: contacts with message activity that month. For an Instagram workflow, PlugKit bills by connected account, so the subscription stays flat while your account bundle stays the same.

Tool What you are billed for Entry price What moves the bill
ManyChat Active Contacts per month, per ManyChat account $0, then $17/mo or $14/mo on annual billing Active Contacts, extras and additional subscriptions
PlugKit Connected social accounts $29/mo for 5 accounts Adding accounts; X API usage costs extra

For PlugKit that means $29 a month for 5 connected accounts, cancel anytime, or $97 for 30, checked on plugkit.co and in the plans and billing documentation on September 16, 2026. Pro extras use graduated bands: $3 each for accounts 31 through 100, then $1.50 each from account 101. Comment-to-DM automations, broadcasts, the unified inbox, analytics and webhooks are in both plans. Ten thousand people in your Instagram DMs in a month changes nothing on the PlugKit invoice. X is the exception: its API usage is charged separately at cost.

Where ManyChat wins, plainly: it has a visual flow builder, SMS and email channels, and years of Instagram growth playbooks built around it. PlugKit has no drag and drop builder, no SMS, no email. It exposes an API and an MCP server so an agent runs the account instead of a human clicking boxes. If your team designs branching flows on a canvas, a switch will hurt. If your automations already live in code or in an agent, the per contact meter is a tax you can stop paying.

FAQ

How much does ManyChat cost per month?

As checked on September 16, 2026, monthly plans cost $0, $17, $39, $99 and $199 for Free through Advanced. Annual equivalents are $0, $14, $29, $69 and $139 per month, with paid annual plans charged upfront for the year. Paid plans add contact overages, and tax or optional extras can increase the total.

Is ManyChat free for Instagram?

Yes, for an eligible professional Business or Creator account: Instagram plus one of Facebook Messenger, TikTok or Telegram, with 25 Active Contacts a month, up to 4 active automations and ManyChat branding. Country, connection and channel restrictions still apply. Free excludes WhatsApp, SMS and Email. Essential and Pro also offer 14-day trials, subject to eligibility.

What happens if I go over my ManyChat contact limit?

Paid web plans add overages at the rates in the table; at your selected contact cap, automations continue only for contacts already active that cycle. Free has a 25-contact allowance and no published overage rate. A same-cycle upgrade waives prior overages but also starts a new paid period, with a prorated credit for unused subscription time.

Why is my ManyChat bill higher than the plan price?

Contact overages, tax, extra Inbox seats and channel charges such as WhatsApp templates can all add to the base price. Each additional ManyChat account also needs its own subscription. Check your contact counter, paid extras and billing country before the invoice date.

Is there a cheaper way to run Instagram comment-to-DM?

Cheaper depends on your reach. Below a few hundred active contacts a month, ManyChat's own Essential plan is hard to beat. Above a few thousand, a per account tool changes the shape of the bill: PlugKit is $29 a month for 5 connected accounts, cancel anytime, with automations and the inbox included regardless of how many people you talk to on Instagram.
