Sprout Social plans and pricing: the real per-seat cost
Sprout Social publishes four plans: Essentials at $79, Standard at $199, Professional at $299 and Advanced at $399, each per seat per month on annual billing, plus a quoted Enterprise tier. Prices checked on sproutsocial.com on October 22, 2026. The unit almost everyone misreads is the seat, not the social account.
Sprout Social plans and what each one costs
Every figure below comes from the Sprout Social pricing page as it read on October 22, 2026. The per-seat prices are the annual-billing rates; Essentials is the only tier that also shows a monthly rate on the page.
| Plan | Per seat, per month (annual) | Billed monthly | Social profiles |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $79 | $99 | Up to 5 |
| Standard | $199 | Not published | 5 |
| Professional | $299 | Not published | Unlimited |
| Advanced | $399 | Not published | Unlimited |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Not published |
There is a 30-day trial, no credit card, on annual billing.
Sprout Social pricing is per seat, and that changes the math
Most publishing tools charge per social account or per brand. Sprout charges per person who logs in, and on the two lower tiers it also caps the accounts. So two limits apply at once: five profiles on Essentials and Standard, and a full price for every extra human.
That makes the headline price a poor guide. Here is what three common shapes actually cost per month on annual billing:
| Team | Plan that fits | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1 person, 4 accounts | Essentials | $79 |
| 1 person, 4 accounts, needs the inbox | Standard | $199 |
| 3 people, 5 accounts, shared inbox | Standard | $597 |
| 3 people, 12 accounts | Professional | $897 |
| 5 people, 12 accounts, sentiment and API | Advanced | $1,995 |
The jump from one person to three on Standard is $398 a month for zero extra accounts. A freelancer who adds a part-time community manager pays double for the same five profiles. That is the single most expensive line in the grid, and it is the one people discover after signing.
What each Sprout Social plan adds
Read this as a ladder, because each tier is the one below it plus a block of features. The page groups them like this:
- Essentials. Publishing and reporting for up to 5 profiles, optimal send times, profile and post-level reporting, and the Trellis AI agent.
- Standard. Adds the consolidated inbox, keyword and location monitoring with 10 brand keywords per group, and review management.
- Professional. Adds unlimited social profiles, message tagging, expanded competitor, tag and paid insights, and AI-assisted post enhancement.
- Advanced. Adds AI-assisted reply enhancement, sentiment analysis in the Smart Inbox and Reviews, the Sprout API and helpdesk integrations, team productivity and customer care reports, and message spike alerts.
- Enterprise. Adds white-glove onboarding, a tailored plan, a dedicated SSO setup service, and priority support.
Two lines deserve attention. The consolidated inbox arrives at Standard, so $199 a seat is the real entry price for anyone whose job is replying rather than posting. And the Sprout API arrives at Advanced, so $399 a seat is the entry price for anyone who wants to pull their own data out.
Add-ons sit on top: Premium Analytics, Social Listening, Employee Advocacy and Professional Services are all sold separately from Standard up, and Influencer Marketing needs no Sprout plan. The pricing page lists none of their prices, it routes you to a consultation, so I will not guess at them here.
Sprout Social cost next to the cheaper paths
Same question, different billing units. Every price here was read on the vendor's own pricing page on October 22, 2026.
| Tool | Entry price | Billed per | What you give up next to Sprout |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sprout Social Essentials | $79 per seat / month | Seat, 5 profiles max | Nothing, this is the baseline |
| Hootsuite Standard | $99 / month | Plan, 10 social accounts | Listening depth, review management |
| Metricool Starter | $20 / month (annual, USD) | Brand, up to 5 brands | Inbox depth, approval workflows |
| Buffer Essentials | $5 / month per channel | Channel, 1 user | Inbox, listening, reporting depth |
| PlugKit Creator | $49 / month | Plan, 5 connected accounts | The whole interface, this is an API |
Hootsuite publishes its figures in the FAQ of its plans page: paid plans start at $99 for Standard, $199 for Professional and up to $399 for Advanced, with 10 social accounts on Standard and unlimited above it. Metricool quotes in euros first and in dollars too, from $20 a month on annual billing for up to 5 brands, excluding VAT. Buffer bills per channel, $5 a month on Essentials and $10 on Team, with up to 3 channels available at no cost on a single user account.
I keep the grids for those three on their own pages: Metricool pricing, Buffer pricing and Later pricing. The side-by-side of the whole category sits in Hootsuite, Buffer, Later, Metricool and Publer alternatives.
Where Sprout Social earns $199 a seat, and where it does not
It earns it when several people share one queue of incoming messages, when somebody has to prove the work in a report a client reads, and when review management and listening are part of the job. Nothing in the cheap tier of this market replaces the Smart Inbox with tagging and assignment. If that is the job, pay for it.
It does not earn it when the account is one person publishing on a schedule. Five profiles and a calendar is a $20 to $49 problem, not a $199 one. It also does not earn it when the real requirement is programmatic: if you want an agent or a script to publish, read comments and pull metrics, you are paying $399 a seat to reach an API that arrives only at Advanced.
That is the gap PlugKit sits in. It is an API and a hosted MCP server rather than a dashboard: $49 a month for 5 connected accounts, cancel anytime, or $97 for 30. Publishing, comments, the unified inbox, analytics and webhooks are in every plan, because there is no plan ladder to climb. The trial is 7 days free with no card and one connected account, and the clock starts when you connect it. What you give up is real and worth saying plainly: no calendar UI to hand a client, no listening, no approval workflow, no reports to export. If you want software a team logs into, Sprout is the better buy. If you want a social layer an agent or a script can call, read the social media API guide.
FAQ
How much does Sprout Social cost per month?
From $79 per seat per month on annual billing for Essentials, up to $399 per seat for Advanced, with Standard at $199 and Professional at $299. Essentials is the only plan showing a monthly rate on the pricing page, at $99 per seat. Enterprise is quoted. Figures read on October 22, 2026.
Does Sprout Social charge per user or per social account?
Both, on the lower tiers. The price is per seat, and Essentials and Standard also cap you at 5 social profiles. Professional and Advanced lift the profile cap but still bill every seat, so three people on Professional is $897 a month.
Is there a cheaper Sprout Social plan for one person?
Essentials at $79 per seat per month is the floor, and it has no consolidated inbox. If you are one person who mostly publishes, tools billed per brand or per channel land far lower: Metricool from $20 a month, Buffer from $5 a month per channel, both read on October 22, 2026.
Does Sprout Social have a free trial?
Yes, 30 days with no credit card, on annual billing, per the pricing page on October 22, 2026.
Which Sprout Social plan includes the API?
Advanced, at $399 per seat per month. The pricing page lists the Sprout API and helpdesk integrations as what Advanced adds over Professional. If API access is the only reason you are climbing the ladder, price a purpose-built API against it first.
